BELFAST CITY HALL (Donegall Square)

Belfast City Hall, Built in 1906 in classical renaissance style, the fine Portland stone exterior conceals a sumptuous Italian marble interior. There are magnificent views into the 53m high dome and the whispering gallery.

BELFAST WATERFRONT HALL & CONFERENCE CENTRE

Undoubtedly the jewel in Belfasts entertainment crown, the Waterfront Hall opened its doors in Janurary 1997 since then international stars such as Barry Douglas,Kiri Te Kanawa and our very own James Galway have taken the stage.

THE PALMHOUSE (Botanic Gardens)

Just around the corner from my flat is the Palm House,it is a fine example of a grand Victorian curvilinear glasshouse with temperate & tropical displays, including carnivorous plants!!!

LAGAN WEIR & LOOKOUT (Donegall Quay)

The Weir stands on the site of the original ford across the river. The Lookout has interactive exhibits on the construction of the Weir and the history of the LAGAN. At night, the Weir and nearby road and rail bridges are spectacularly floodlit. In the background you can just see the 'Albert Clock' Belfasts very own Leaning Tower.

HARLAND & WOLFF SHIPYARD

The U.K's largest shipyard makes its presence known on the Belfast skyline with two gaint cranes, affectionately known as Samson and Goliath. The yard was founded in 1862 by Edward Harland, a Yorkshire man, in partnership with Gustav Wilhelm Wollf, a marine draughtsman from Hamburg. Together they built up the great shipyard that constructed some of the worlds largest ships, including the ill-fated Titanic, and the P & O cruise ship Canberra.

QUEENS UNIVERSITY

30 seconds from my front door is the main building of Queens University. Looking out over trim lawns, this Tudor-Gothic building with its red brick facade, stone facings and stone-mullioned windows is all that a university building should be. Indeed, its central tower closely resembles the Founders Tower of Magdalen college, Oxford. The architect was Sir Charles Lanyon, designer of several of Belfasts most distinguished buildings. When the University was founded in 1849, it was known as Queen's College and it received its University charter in 1908.
